ALTOONA (KWWL) -

An Iowa man is in the hospital recovering from a serious hit and run accident.

It happened Friday in Altoona.

Police say Wayne Patterson was on his motorcycle when a red pick up truck failed to stop at a stop sign.

"I remember hitting the breaks, and hearing a crunch, but I don't remember anything after that until I was waking up in the ambulance," said Patterson.

He shattered both his wrists, fractured his back in five places, broke his eye socket and his cheekbone.

Patterson said when he found out the next day that the man who hit him didn't stop, he was angry and confused.

"I don't understand how anyone could care so little about another human that they would just off and drive off not knowing if they were okay or not," said Patterson. "It saddens me."

Altoona police say they don't have any suspects in the case and are looking for the public's help identifying the driver.
