Farrington family reacts to Kozak's life sentence

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Alexander Kozak will spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole.

Kozak shot and killed Andrea Farrington inside of the Coral Ridge Mall last June.

Andrea's mother, Cheryl Farrington addressed the courtroom during Kozak's sentencing today.

"We will never get to help her plan her wedding, her father Dave will not get the opportunity to walk her down the aisle, she said in part.

"You have made it difficult to go into crowds or large venues knowing that our safety, security and sense of well being may be compromised because of selfish people like you, she added.

Cheryl Farrington told us she did not expect an apology from Kozak, something he gave out loud during the sentencing.

"The level of regret that I feel is impossible to put into words," Kozak said.

"I'm shocked that he finally showed maybe he had some remorse for doing it and the fact that it sounded like he even spoke to Andrea apologizing to her so I'm glad that he did, I still think he's a coward," Cheryl Farrington told us after the sentencing.
