DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

What was supposed to be a fun day at the park turns into chaos, as a car leads police on a chase -- crashing at a popular neighborhood park in Dubuque.

It happened Sunday evening when many kids were out playing. "I just saw a car like rammed into a tree and the tree...fell over from the car," said Harlen Hull, who was there at the time.

It all started at the Walgreens on East 20th Street. Police were called about a man who was waiving a gun. "We received information while responding that the person had gotten into a vehicle and had took off," said Lt. Scott Baxter of the Dubuque Police Department.

The alleged driver, 33-year-old Roy Woods of Dubuque took off speeding down an alley, driving over 50 miles per hour. Police say he then drove through Comiskey Park striking the soccer goal, then crashing into a tree.

Parents admit this was a scary situation. "Yeah you don't think something like that is gonna happen...it could've been a lot worse than it was," said James Hull.

Fortunately, no kids at the park were injured. However, there was a passenger in the car who was taken to the hospital for possible injuries.

Woods faces multiple charges. They include eluding, OWI, and harassing a city employee. He also faces third-degree burglary for stealing clothes from a nearby garage after running away from the park.
