Public opinion sought on police body cameras in Dubuque

DUBUQUE (TH MEDIA) -

The Dubuque Police Department is seeking the public's help in developing a policy to govern the use of police body cameras.

Last year, the department received a $61,000 federal grant and donations to outfit all city police officers with body cameras over a two-year period.

The city is required to match the grant.

As part of the program, department officials are developing an internal policy to guide officers on the use, retention and release of body camera footage.

The department is inviting the public to review and comment on a draft policy.

Police will host a public meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on June 14 at the Carnegie-Stout Public Library.

Residents may comment on the policy and ask questions of police staff.
