UPDATE: Sheriff's office releases name of man killed by train

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office says Jeffery Werger died after being hit by a train on Saturday night.

Werger was from Garnavillo. He was 39 years old.

It happened near Bill's Boat Landing in Clayton.

The sheriff's office says it's still investigating.

An Iowa man was hit and killed by a train overnight.

Just before midnight on Saturday, Clayton County deputies along with Garnavillo Fire and EMS and the Guttenberg Ambulance Service responded to a train accident in the City of Clayton near South Front Street.

A man was hit by a southbound train. He was taken to the Guttenberg Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.

A name has not been released at this time.
