Dyersville Beckman goes back to back at state soccer

Posted: Updated:

Dyersville Beckman scored twice in the second half as the top ranked Blazers defeated Carroll Kuemper 2-1 for a second straight 1A state soccer title.

Senior Zach Deutmeyer opened the scoring for the Blazers as a free kick rebounded off the goalkeeper directly to the Beckman striker who put it home midway through the second half. Jacob Grover added a second tally on a rocket shot just outside of the box to give the Blazers a 2-0 advantage.

Sam Auen earned a controversial goal for Kuemper in the 69th minute knocking in a ball jarred loose from the goalkeeper during a collision, but the Knights couldn't manage to pick up the equalizer in the final minutes.

The Blazers win cements their place as just one of six boys teams in state history to win back to back titles.
