Columbus girls win 18th state tennis title

Posted: Updated:

Waterloo Columbus added another trophy to their record haul capturing the 18th girls' tennis team title in school history.

The Sailors defeated Creston/Orient-Macksburg 5-0 to win the championship without dropping a set.

Karlee Sinnott set the tone for the Sailors finishing first with a pair of 6-0 shut out wins over C/O-M's Ann Waigand. Columbus followed with four other two set wins to take the title.

The team victory followed a single's state championship by Olivia Fain on Friday while teammates Lauren McManus and Taylor Hogan won the doubles title. It marked the first time in girls' state history that the same team captured the singles, doubles and team titles in the same year.
