Despite recent rain, eastern Iowa experiences below average precipitation

Despite recent storms moving through eastern Iowa the first weekend in June, KWWL Meteorologist Kyle Kiel says much of eastern Iowa is experiencing below average rainfall compared to previous years, year-to-date.

At last check, Waterloo has received 11.68 inches of precipitation from January 1 to June 4 in 2016.

Cedar Rapids has received 9.46 inches, Iowa City has seen 9.02 inches so far, and Dubuque has gotten 11.22 inches of precipitation.

That means Waterloo is more than an inch below average, year to date, compared to previous years.

Cedar Rapids is more than 1.5 inches below average, Dubuque is more than 2.25  inches of precipitation below average, and Iowa City is more than 3.5 inches below average.
