Local Water Park Opens for the 16th Season

Posted: Updated:

Temperatures are heating up and summer is here. One way to fight off the heat is at the local water park that opened today.

Kids at Lost Island water park say they love one thing the most, the slides!

Lost Island is opening it's doors for its 16th summer season, adding attractions all over the park, including a life-like mermaid.

"This really is the first nice opening day that we've had for several years," said Eric Bertch, general manager of Lost Island.

With the temperature well into the 80's families waited in line to get in the moment the park opened. Eric Bertch says you get a different feeling when you walk inside.

"When you walk through our front gate, you don't feel like you're in the the middle of the corn fields in Iowa. You have gone on vacation to somewhere else," said Bertch.

That feeling is just one reason families come back. Bertch calls his visitors loyal.

"One of the biggest factors that contribute to people's positive memories of Lost Island is because it really is a lost island that you don't have to travel to get to," said Bertch.

The park has more than 15 attractions. Even the kids agree it's a perfect place for all ages.

Fourteen-year-old, David Randall and his friends have been going to the park for most of their childhood, they love the sun, the slides and spending time with each other.

"It's great for the family especially when it's sunny and they have perfect rides for the little kids and for the adults also," said David Randall.
