At the girls state tennis tournament at Byrne's park tennis center in Waterloo--- Columbus high school had a good first day---

In singles Olivia Fain comes to the net for the volley winner--fain advances to the semifinals without losing a set...UNI volleyball star Ashlee Sinnot--a former Sailor watches as both Waterloo Columbus doubles teams also breezed to easy wins--the Sailors doubles team of Karlee Sinnot and Brianne Eighme beats a team from Assumption 6-3, 6-4 to move to the semifinals.

Decorah had the doubles team of Katelyn Yee and Kelsey Kruse also advance to the semifinal without dropping a set...And in singles---Decorah's Kally Peterson is in the semifinals following two straight set victories--she will play the Sailors' Olivia Fain.

While Waverly-Shell Rock's Chelsea Poesch had to survive a tie-breaker and three tough sets to advance to Friday's semifinal.

    Just hours after landing in Taipei the Iowa baseball team got right down to business, posting a 10-5 win over the Czech National Team in an exhibition contest Thursday afternoon. The Hawkeyes, representing team USA at the World University Games, got a pair of 3-run home runs out of Robert Neustrom to clinch the victory.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
