The former treasurer of an Iowa State University sorority alumni association has pleaded guilty in a scheme to defraud the group out of nearly $1 million over 14 years.

U.S. Attorney Kevin VanderSchel says Thursday that 50-year-old Andrea Baker pleaded guilty to mail fraud. Baker admitted she received and attempted to receive about $950,000 from the Chi Omega Alumnae Association between 2000 and 2014.

Baker admitted she mailed checks from the group's account to pay for her personal credit card statements. She also deposited the association's funds into her personal bank account and obtained its cash for personal use.

VanderSchel says she also made false entries in the group's financial records to cover up the scheme.

Sentencing is set for Oct. 6.
