Iowa's largest hospice facility to stop accepting patients

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

A growing trend is forcing the state's largest hospice facility quit accepting patients.

The Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines can hold up to 24 patients. It hasn't been full in years.

Now, it's being converted into an administration building.

All of the Kavanagh House clients will be served at its other facility. It's smaller, but most of its beds are already full.

"It really improves care," says Tray Wade, Interim Chief Executive Officer for HCI Care Services. "It makes us stronger as far as the organization. It makes us better equipment to meet our patient and family needs."

Leaders say more people have been choosing in home care in recent years.
