Iowa City prepares to host international cyclocross race

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An event seen around the world is set to broadcast from Eastern Iowa this fall.

The Volkswagen Jingle Cross Pro Cyclocross race will be held September 22nd to 25th in Iowa City.

It's part of the cyclocross world cup series, which includes races in countries like Belgium, Germany and Italy.

Organizers saying today that people from around the world will tune in.

"This event is absolutely going to redefine what it means to be put on the map," Said Geoff Fruin, Iowa City's Interim City Manager. "We estimate that there'll be over ten million viewers across the globe tuning into Iowa City that weekend to watch the world cup race."

Organizers say the races are expected to have quite an impact on the local economy.

The event is set to bring in an estimated 2 million dollars to Iowa City.
