According to a police report, 59-year-old Michael Plein was backing up, and told police he didn't see the boy before he hit him.

Young was taken to Finley Hospital, then airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, according to a police report.

According to that report, ne witness told police she heard kids yelling at the driver to stop as he was backing out.  She told police she also started yelling, but Plein didn't hear it.

Another witness told police that she had seen Young riding the tricycle, but he was hard to see because he was so low to the ground, police said in that report.
