What happened to Gracie Buss?

Posted: Updated:

A year ago today, a-four-year-old girl was found with severe injuries that would eventually lead to her death. Tonight, still few answers in what caused those injuries.

Gracie Buss was found unresponsive inside her Waterloo home, one year ago today. She died a few days later at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

An autopsy shows the little girl suffered serious head injuries, but it did not confirm how she got those injuries. Her relatives believe her injuries were intentional but so far, no charges have been filed.

A year later, the Black Hawk County Attorney tells us this case is his number one priority.

A month after she died, we spoke with Gracie's grandmother and aunt who say they believe those injures were caused by someone.

Aunt Jennifer Fairbanks says, "Gracie is in a much better place. I know she's with God and she's with her auntie Heather and she's happy and she won't have to feel any more pain."

They didn't want to elaborate in fears of jeopardizing the investigation, but as part of that investigation, search warrants were issued to Gracie's mother Kristi and Kristi's live-in boyfriend Chad Little. Police have not told us many details about these warrants, just that the investigation is ongoing.

In the meantime, we remember the 4-year-old girl who loved life...a little girl taken too soon.

We are continuing to push for some of those answers into what exactly happened to Gracie as the investigation continues. We recently reached out to relatives, but they did not want to go on camera again. They told KWWL they continue to hope justice will be served for little Gracie.
