Eastern Iowa Memorial Day events

Here is a list of memorial events today. We will keep adding events as we hear about more.

1. The Memorial Day Parade in downtown McGregor starts at 10:00 a.m.

2. The Bear Creek Cemetery Memorial Day services in Brandon start at 9 a.m. The names of veterans buried in the cemetery will be read. 

3. In Waterloo, there will be a picnic and parade. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the corner of Commercial & 5th Streets. The picnic lasts from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum will offer free admission to all veterans and active duty military personnel. In addition, the first 100 visitors will receive a FREE picnic-style lunch.

4. In Cedar Falls, Memorial Day activities begin today at Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. There will be music by the Cedar Falls Municipal Band at 10:30 a.m. and a program at 11 a.m. Guest speaker is Jennifer Hicks of Hicks Place. 

5. In Cedar Rapids, there will be a Memorial Day tribute at 11 a.m. in the Cedar Memorial Cemetery. 

6. In Iowa City, there will be a Veteran's Trail Memorial Day Ceremony from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. People can enjoy a live bald eagle, military vehicles on display, and a rock climbing wall.
