REINBECK (KWWL) -

Sophomore Walker Thede connected on a second half penalty kick as Grundy Center-Gladbrook-Reinbeck topped Gilbert 1-0 to advance to a second straight class 1A state soccer tournament.

Both teams struggled to find the back of the net before GC-G-R junior Eric Knaack got taken down inside the box in the 46th minute setting up the game-winning kick. Thede kept it low and tucked it inside the right post lifting the Rebels to the state clinching win.

GC-G-R earned the number two seed at state and will open against seventh seeded Carroll Kuemper on Thursday at 12:15 pm.
