An Ames-based company is peddling a mobile food dehydrator in an effort to stop food waste around the globe.

The KinoSol is a mobile food dehydration unit that is solar powered for farmers.

KinoSol co-founder Clayton Mooney says one-third of all food produced goes to waste and that the dehydrator is crucial in developing countries.

Co-founder Elise Kendall says she learned during a trip to Uganda that during harvest time, a lot of food goes to waste because of a lack of ways to store and preserve it.

Mooney says the unit can fully dehydrate fruit, vegetables, grains and insects.
