WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Clinging to a late one run lead, the Waterloo East softball team used a 6th inning triple play to cling to the lead in an eventual 3-1 win over Cedar Rapids Washington.

The Trojans took an early lead on an RBI base hit to center by Lexi Wroe in the second inning. Washington tied the game in the fourth on a run scoring single by Anne Riley. East regained a 2-1 edge in the fifth as Kaylee Hanks lined a double in to the right-center field gap scoring Kayla Ryan from first base.

Washington threatened in the 6th inning with no outs and runners on first and second. East High third baseman , Hanks, snagged a low liner off the bat of Riley. Both runners got caught off base as Hanks fired to second for the second out, while Brooke Meighan made the toss to first to complete the triple play.

East's Jackie Henry added an insurance run with an RBI base hit in the bottom of the 6th.
