Jenks finishes with 11 career state titles

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Linn-Mar senior Stephanie Jenks finished with a bang on Saturday. The state's top distance runner captured two more state titles, running her career total to 11 over the past four years.

Jenks won the class 4A 800 and 1500 hundred meters on the final day of the state track meet, out-kicking the competition in both races, the same way she'd done it for years. Jenks also captured the 3000 meter title on Thursday. Over the course of her career she'd won the two longer races four times each, while capturing three titles in the 800.

She says watching some of Iowa's best distance runners in the past helped her achieve her goals.

"I wanted my freshman year to come out leaving a mark and I think Shelby Houlihan has really inspired me to do that as well as Katie Flood," said Jenks, "Just being able to have all those titles... I'm speechless."

Last month, Jenks captured her 10th Drake Relays title as well. She'll continue her track career at Cal.
