SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWWL) -

The Upper Iowa softball team defeated Minnesota State 3-2 to win the Northern Sun Conference Tournament.

The victory earned the Peacocks the conference's automatic bid in to the NCAA tournament.

The Peacocks earned their way in to the championship through the winner's bracket, and actually lost their first game against the Mavericks 2-1 in 16 innings, setting up a winner take all match between the two teams.

Upper Iowa gained a 1-0 edge in game two with a run scoring single from Jacqueline Flood. Tara Walls followed with a long solo home run in the 4th giving the Peacocks a 2-0 advantage. Tara Duran's infield single scored Flood in the 6th for a much needed insurance run as Minnesota State responded with a pair of runs to cut the lead to one late. Flood finished the game on the mound retiring all 5 batters she faced to end the game.

Brooke Redmond (20-5) earned her 20th win in the victory that sent the Peacocks in to the NCAA tournament.
