Daniel Dennis of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club has earned the right to represent Team USA at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Dennis beat fellow Hawkeye Tony Ramos two matches to none Sunday night in the 57 kg finals of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena to secure the berth.

In round one, a total of three passivity points were awarded. Dennis held the edge, 2-1, handing Ramos his first-ever loss inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

With a win in the best-of-three finals, Dennis will compete in his first Olympic Games. He is the 18th Iowa wrestler overall, and the first since 2008, to become an Olympian. Hawkeye wrestlers have won five gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals.
