1st District Congressional Forum set for April 29

Posted: Updated:

Iowa 1st District Democratic Congressional candidates, Monica Vernon and Pat Murphy, will face voters during a special Democratic Congressional Forum in Vinton, April 29.

The 7 p.m. event will be held in The Old Main Auditorium, on the campus of the Iowa Braille School, 1002 G Avenue, in Vinton.

Doors will open at 6:30 and the Democratic Congressional Forum will begin at 7 p.m.

The Vernon-Murphy primary battle is a rematch of the 2016 race, in which Pat Murphy won the 1st District Democratic nomination, but lost to Republican, Rod Blum, in the general election.

Early in the race, there was a 3rd Democratic candidate in Gary Kroeger, but Kroeger dropped out to run for the Iowa Legislature.

So, either Vernon or Murphy will win the June 7 primary for the right to face incumbent Republican, Rod Blum, in November.

The April 29 Vinton Congressional Forum will be hosted by the 1st District Democratic Committee,

The Forum kicks off a big weekend of Iowa politics in Benton County.

Saturday, April 30, Benton Community High School in Van Horne plays host to the Democratic District Convention, which will serve as one of the steps to determine Iowa delegates for the National Convention in Philadelphia this summer.

388 1st District Delegates will vote on a party platform in advance of the State Democratic Convention in Des Moines June 18.
