Columbus, Waverly-Shell Rock dominate metro girls soccer jamboree

Dominant performances by Waverly-Shell Rock and Waterloo Columbus highlighted Monday night's 4-game metro girls soccer jamboree in Waterloo. The 2 teams combined for 15 goals for a pair of wins in games played in half of regulation time.

Cedar Falls opened the night against Denver, the #7 team in class 1A. For 39:59 seconds, the two teams sat locked in a scoreless tie until the Tigers Ally Zierke found the back of the net in the final second of the game to give the Tigers a 1-0 victory.

Waverly-Shell Rock, ranked 8th in class 2A got a pair of goals from Abbi Staak and Shelby Hemer in the first ten minutes against Waterloo West. Zoey Campbell and Katie Stewart tacked on 2 more in a 4-0 win.

Things were a bit easier for 1A's 2nd ranked team Waterloo Columbus. Sophomore Olivia Fain scored 3 times, while her Sailor teammates added 8 more in an 11-0 win over Waterloo East.

Hudson defeated Union 1-0 in the jamboree's other contest.
