Buzzer-beating tip pushes Iowa City West past Cedar Falls in state semis

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Tanner Lohaus' tip-in with under a second remaining pushed Iowa City West past Cedar Falls and in to the class 4A title game, 61-59.

The play overshadowed a furious comeback by Cedar Falls to tie the game late in the 4th quarter.

Iowa City West took a 50-40 lead at the 4:12 mark on a lay-up from Devontae Lane. That's when the Tigers' A.J. Green went to work, scoring 14 points in a 4 minute span, capping that run with a lay-in to tie the game at 59 with 5 seconds to go.

Cedar Falls, however, fouled West's Connor McCaffery on the in bounds play, sending him to the line for a 1-and-1. McCaffery would miss the front end, but Lane secured a steal 2 seconds later, getting off a shot that clanged long off the iron. Lohaus was waiting on the other side, tipping home the winning bucket just before the final buzzer.

The win gives Iowa City West and opportunity to play for their 4th title in just the last 5 seasons.
