Gladbrook-Reinbeck rolls past Grundy Center in district final

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The defending champion Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys shook off a slow start and rolled past Grundy Center 67-43 in a class 1A district final on Thursday night. The victory marked their third this season over the Spartans.

After leading by 4 after the first quarter, the sixth ranked Rebels went on a 25-2 run that carried in to third to take complete control of the game.

Joe Smoldt led the way for Gladbrook-Reinbeck with 26 points, which included shooting 11 of 12 from the free throw line. Matt Roeding added 13.

Austin Burroughs led the Grundy Center effort with 15 points.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck advances to face 10th ranked Lynnville-Sully in the sub-state final at UNI's McLeod Center on Saturday.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
