DES MOINES (WHO) -

Democratic Party leaders and activists in Iowa are getting ready for the caucus night showdown.

The Iowa Democratic Party trained caucus volunteers over the weekend at a training center in Des Moines.

This year, the state parties are turning to a solution to get better organized... a smartphone app. A person at each caucus site will enter the caucus night results into the app. Those figures then go to party headquarters in Des Moines.

"We are excited about it," said Josie Bradley of the Iowa Democratic Party. "We've been putting in the groundwork to make sure we are answering all questions."

Both political parties will use the technology from Microsoft. In 2012, Iowa Republicans struggled to get timely, accurate results reported at all of the caucus precincts.

"Microsoft has been a great partner," said Bradley. "We are very confident in how everything has been going and we are very excited to see it all work on caucus night."
