Police Officer Assaulted at Domestic Disturbance Call

Cedar Rapids police say an officer was seriously injured during a domestic disturbance call Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance at 3:04 p.m. at Soapy Waters, 800 6th Street SW.

At the scene, a police officer was speaking with a suspect, identified as 33-year-old Nathan Brocks, of Cedar Rapids when he allegedly hit the police officer.

The assault caused the police officer to go unconscious, fall to the ground, and hit his head against a cement parking barrier.

The officer was taken to Mercy Medical Center for injuries.

Police say Brocks continued to fight and resist arrest with other police officers until he was taken into custody after officers used a Taser to control him.

Brocks was arrested for Assault with Injury on a Peace Officer (two counts), Interference with Official Acts with Injury (two counts), Assault Causing Bodily Injury-Domestic Abuse, Criminal Mischief, and Theft. Additional charges are likely.

Brocks is being held in the Linn County Jail at this time.
