WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Some long time residents of Waterloo want to meet the city's new mayor Quentin Hart, like 81-year-old Orran Bane.

"What they gonna do about all those empty lots downtown?" asked Bane.

About 50 senior citizens -- some who voted for Mayor Hart and some who didn't -- came out to the Waterloo Senior Center to get more families with him.

This was also an opportunity for the seniors to really get to know Mayor Hart on a personal level.  They filled out a form with trivia questions. he answered them, talking about his background, and family. his parents were also there.

Many also asked him questions on issues they care about...such as how to make neighborhoods safe.
"And I did have a national night out party at my house, but all the neighbors came and they wanted to take our neighborhood map cause our neighborhood map was classified as high crime because of everything that's happened since April and we're not getting any support," said one attendee.

Hart responded by saying, "We're gonna have to do something together because the only way we're gonna meet some of those challenges...it can't all be on law enforcement."

Other issues brought up were not raising property taxes and keeping roundabouts out of the city.

Afterwards -- many people seemed positive about meeting mayor hart.

"Well, I think he's gonna be a great mayor...I really do," said Glen McCLain.
