Students prepare for First LEGO League competition

Posted: Updated:
DENVER (KWWL) -

Teams from across Iowa will be competing  in Ames for the Iowa First LEGO League state competition. (FLL)

It's a weekend dedicated to teaching kids about science, technology, engineering, and math.

To prepare for the competition this weekend, each team had to create their own robot out of legos.

One team made a robot that pushes trucks, and another drops items into lego cars.

There's even a people thrower robot, where the truck brings the lego person to his or her job and then throws him or her in there.

All these ideas were created through teamwork.

This competition isn't just about legos. This year, each team had to find a problem with trash in their community and show judges how they would solve it.

The teams will also be judged on their communication skills and how well they work together.

Whoever wins state will get to go on to the worlds competition.

60 teams will be competing tomorrow and 60 the next day.
