Head On Crash Caused By Frosty Road Seriously Injures Two

Emergency crews use jaws of life to cut one victim from a car early Thursday morning.

Just before 8 a.m., the Fayette County Sheriff's Office and the West Union Fire responded to a two car accident at the intersection of Hwy 150 and 190th Street.

Sara Ann Shaffer, 23, of Waterloo was headed north on Hwy 150 when she lost control on the frost covered roadway.

The vehicle drifted into on coming traffic and hit Kellie Adel Blanchard, 46, of West Union, head on.

Blanchard was trapped and had to be cut from her 2003 Ford Taurus and was taken to Palmer Hospital.

She was later airlifted to Mayo in Rochester, MN with serious injuries.

Shaffer and her passenger Shelby Ann Shaffer, age 25 of Oelwein were taken to Palmer Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Sara Shaffer was later airlifted to Gunderson in LaCrosse for treatment of her injuries.

The accident is under investigation at this time.
