MARION COUNTY (KWWL) -

The town of Melcher-Dallas is down to just one police officer, and that person only works part-time.

Four full-time officers abruptly resigned Tuesday night. City leaders refused to say what led to the resignations.

On Wednesday night, they held a meeting to decide what to do about it.

Much of the discussion focused on hiring new officers.

"We will lose the personal touch when we don't have our own department," a resident said. "Citizens don't have somebody they can call and feel comfortable calling because you just don't seen an officer that often in town."

"If folks know that there's going to be officers around the chance of something happening... is reduced greatly," another resident said.

Council members didn't decide what to do Wednesday night, and until they do, the Marion County Sheriff's Department will patrol the town.
