(KWWL) -

The 2015 calendar year was another good year for passenger travel as the airport reported a total of 24,984 outbound passengers used Waterloo Regional Airport for their air travel needs.

This is an increase of 2,602 passengers in contrast with the 2014 calendar year, or an increase of 11.625%, and reflecting an aircraft load factor of 78%.

The passenger numbers in 2015 also reflect an increase of 6,962 passengers, and increase of 38.6%, in contrast with passenger travel as recent as only calendar year 2012 - resulting in a three-year annual average increase of 12.8%.

The end of the year report also indicated that 2015 was the first year that the airport averaged over 2,000 passengers per month since 2008 when the total outbound passengers totaled 25,620, with a monthly average of 2,135.

The fourth quarter of 2015 was also a good period of report as the airport reported an increase of 645 additional outbound passengers, reflecting an increase of nearly 10.75% over the same quarter of 2014.

The 2015 fourth quarter reflects an increase of 1,820 passengers, an increase of nearly 23% over the fourth quarter of 2012.

The fourth quarter in 2015 also reported a solid monthly average aircraft load factor of 82%.

Keith Kaspari, Airport Director of Waterloo Regional Airport commented that, “This EOY report is very good news for passengers in Waterloo, Cedar Falls and throughout the Cedar Valley Region as we continue in 2016.  Looking at the increases over the last couple of years – including a very competitively priced air fare structure, allows the airport to be looked at more favorably by local and area passengers as they are becoming more aware that flying from Waterloo – and not having to take the time to drive to other larger regional airports in Iowa to begin their air travel – so, the Fly-Drive contrast allows our passengers to save even more money knowing they do not have to pay for an added gas expense and the higher cost of vehicle parking.”

Airport staff look forward to seeing additional passengers use the airport for both business and leisure travel, to see a continued increase in the overall load factor of the aircraft over an extended period of time.
