(KWWL) -
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders takes the lead over Hillary Clinton in a new Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.
Sen. Sanders is pulling support from 49% of likely Iowa Democratic Caucus participants, versus 44% for former Secretary of State Clinton, and just 4% for Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley.
The new poll shows Clinton is losing ground, after a December 15 survey from Quinnipiac showing Clinton with 51% and Sanders with just 40%.
More men support Sanders; isolating men in the poll, 61% support Sanders and 30% support Clinton. As for women, 55% back Clinton over 39% supporting Sanders.
Tuesday's results are from January 5 - 10, Quinnipiac University surveyed 492 Iowa likely Democratic Caucus participants with a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percentage points.
