Homeless shelter looking to expand during colder months

Posted: Updated:

The coldest days of the season are coming. That has one Eastern Iowa shelter asking the public for help.

The Catholic Worker House in Waterloo has housing for homeless men and women and children. They can only support a handful of people. That's why the catholic worker house is trying to purchase another place they can turn into a men's shelter.

They're asking for 45,000 dollars in donations.

"The beds are full the couches are full, so if someone comes in and it's really life threatening cold we'll put them on the floor if they're alright with that," said Paul Henson, who works at the Catholic Worker House.

Henson was homeless himself. This place helped him turn his life around, and now he works there.

On January 22, they are holding a fundraiser at the Knights of Columbus. This will be a dinner and a dance, and money raised from this event will go towards a new shelter.

If you would like to help the Catholic Worker House, they have a GoFundMe page here
