22-year-old Waterloo Mother Dies Unexpectedly

Posted: Updated:

22- year-old Lacey Batton is described by family as someone who loved life and her sons.

"She's a good mother and a hard-worker," says her sister-in-law Ashley Reed.

Then the unthinkable happened in her Waterloo home.

Lacey was found dead in her bed. Family says she went to sleep and never woke up. At this time, police say she died because of medical reasons. Her family hopes and autopsy will give them some answers.

Reed says, "You know with no health problems and being 22 and having a great life and not having any problems...then she goes to bed one night and never wakes up to her kids and family...it's scary."

Lacey worked as a CNA at Western Home Communities and her family says she loved her job.

Reed says, "For a living she took care of other people. She loved her residents."

Family says Lacey's life revolved around her sons. Sadly, she gave birth to a stillborn baby a year ago and her long-time boyfriend is having a hard time understanding all of this.

Talking about her brother, Reed says, "He was there when it all happened. He's going through a lot right now. He just wants to be left alone."

Lacey's relative Schae Shepherd says, "At age 22 you are looking to spend your life with somebody and not plan a funeral."

All for a life gone too soon...

"She's going to be missed very much," Reed says.

Lacey's family has set up a Go Fund Me account. They say all the money raised will go towards funeral expenses and her two sons she sadly left behind.
