If you're on a new diet with the turn of the calendar into 2016 and trying to limit calories, take caution of the beverages you enjoy, as they may be packed with more calories than you think.

Researchers from the American Council on Exercise found that it would take 35 minutes of racquetball to burn the more than 400 calories in one margarita, for example. Even if you stay away from alcoholic beverages, you would need 45 minutes of moderate intensity exercise to compensate for a medium peppermint mocha.

Some lower calorie options include a glass of champagne (120 calories), a five ounce glass of wine (125 calories) or a light beer (155 calories).
