WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The first Waterloo Baby of 2016 is born Friday morning, just after 3:30, and her mother said it's a special day for more than one reason.

Royalte Dior Johnson was born at five pounds, five ounces, nearly 18 inches; and her mother, Montajia Mitchell was induced after 1:00 a.m.

"I was feeling horrible. I was ready to get it done and over with," Mitchell said.

Montajia said her pregnancy was high-risk due to gestational hypertension, but she said with the help of amazing nurses at Covenant, Royalte was born happy and healthy.

"All my tests came back high. So, she ha d to come out," Mitchell said.

Not only is the new year special for Royalte, but she now shares the same birthday as her great grandmother.

"It's great. It's kind of special to us," Mitchell said.

According to Mitchell, she said she's looking forward to bringing her new baby girl home to meet her other siblings.

Meanwhile, Allen Hospital's first baby of the year was also a girl.

She was born after 4:30 a.m., and both mom and the baby are healthy.
