The University of Iowa's head football coach remains atop the list of the state's highest-paid employees.

Database information provided by the state shows Kirk Ferentz made almost $4 million in the fiscal year ending June 30. The Des Moines Register reports that Iowa State head basketball coach Fred Hoiberg made $2.1 million over the same period. He's since departed for professional basketball's Chicago Bulls.

In third place on the list is Iowa State football coach Paul Rhoads at $1.85 million. He was fired in November.

The highest-paid person on the list who isn't a coach is Kenneth Kates, chief executive officer of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was paid more than $1.6 million in fiscal 2015.
