SAN ANTONIO (NBC) -

Texas Christian University quarterback Trevone Boykin was arrested in San Antonio overnight after police say he was involved in a bar fight and then struck a bicycle patrol officer.

Boykin and some friends were at Pat O'Brien's bar ahead of Saturday's Alamo Bowl game against the Oregon Ducks when witnesses say other patrons recognized him and "exchanged words," according to NBC affiliate WOAI in San Antonio.

Police said Boykin is being charged with assault of a public official, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.

TCU issued the following response to the situation this morning: "We are aware of a situation last night and are gathering information. We will continue to closely monitor this and evaluate additional details as they become available."

The Horned Frogs finished 2nd in the Big 12 with a 7-2 conference record and a 10-2 overall mark in 2015.
