DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

It's a long day for Steve Oberhoffer of Dubuque's Public Works department. "Sometimes we're out here a lot," he said.

It's one of those days when the whole street crew is working 12 hour shifts to get the city cleaned up.

Steve's going through downtown and clearing the roads of snow.  "Drop my side blade down...the trick is to push back as far as you can and not get it on the side walk," he added.

With about six inches of snow fall in Dubuque -- it takes lots of resources to get the job done.

"We're gonna put down 200 pounds of salt.  I think last night I went through 27,000 pounds," said Steve.

Still -- drivers are getting stuck in the mess.

"The frustration has clouded any sense of time I've had doing this," said Caitlyn Donald, whose car was stuck in the snow.

But the street team says they amped up the number of plow trucks out on the road to help with snow removal -- from 15 to 21.

They also do this day or night.  "It doesn't make a difference...Saturday, Sunday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day," added Steve.

The public works team is also responsible for 7 miles of sidewalks.  They'll be taking care of that Wednesday.
