LOS ANGELES (KWWL) -

The Rose Bowl is still a few days away, but Iowa fans have started to hit Southern California.

Monday, Jeff Lewis and his family were exploring the Santa Monica Pier, taking in the sights and smells of the world famous attraction.

They have been waiting for the chance to see the Hawkeyes in California for a long time.  They made the drive from Sioux City, and got into California Sunday night.

"It's very exciting. I mean, we've been following the Hawkeyes since the 2002 Orange Bowl game, we've been going to all the bowl games, and been really wanting to make it to a Rose Bowl, so it's really exciting to make it out here," he said.

Meanwhile, the Marsh family has also made it to the pier, although they flew to California, unlike Lewis.

Not only are they excited to see the Hawkeyes in the Grand Daddy of them all, but they're excited they missed the snow storm back home too.

"Our timing was about perfect," they said.
