LOS ANGELES (KWWL) -

University of Iowa students and Iowa residents who attend the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA will receive free admission to see Battleship Iowa on the Los Angeles Waterfront while in town.

All Iowa residents have access to free admission year round because of the state's support of transforming the historic namesake ship into an educational interactive museum.

Because the Hawkeyes will play in the Rose Bowl on New Years Day, even non-resident University of Iowa students can take advantage of the free admission to see Battleship Iowa, as long as they show proper identification, such as a valid Iowa license or student I.D., when entering the museum.

"We couldn't be happier for the University of Iowa and Hawkeye nation on their accomplishments this season," said Jonathan Williams, the President and CEO of Pacific Battleship Center. "[We] welcome their staff, student body and boosters to come out and experience a day aboard their ship."

Battleship Iowa opened to the public on July 7th, 2012 as an interactive naval museum at the L.A. Waterfront, and is the only battleship on the West Coast.

The vessel is operated by the nonprofit Pacific Battle Center (PBC) and is dedicated to celebrating the American spirit.
