Attempted Cedar Falls robbery ends with man assaulting employees and police officer

A man is arrested in Cedar Falls, after reportedly assaulting a police officer and employees at a grocery store.

At 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the HyVee Store on University Avenue, on a report of a man stealing merchandise. Police say, when the man was approached by store management, he physically assaulted two people, which resulted in minor injuries.

The suspect's name is Michael Myers.

Police say Myers ran from the store before police arrived. Officers found him in a nearby parking lot, allegedly attempting to get into a locked police car.

As the officer was attempting to get out of his patrol vehicle, police say Myers rushed the officer and assaulted him. The officer; Nick Puls was transported to Sartori Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

 Myers was tazed and subdued by another officer on scene. He was arrested and transported to Black Hawk County Jail.

 Myers has been charged with Robbery 2nd degree and Assault causing bodily injury.
