A two year old boy had the flu, but he ended up losing his fingers and toes.

It's a medical mystery that has doctors at the University of Iowa hospital stumped.

Liam Young has another surgery this morning

Liam's surgery today is just one of many he's had.

The two-year-old is from the Dubuque-area.

Late in October, his dad took him to Dubuque-Finley hospital, thinking he had the flu.

The boy's illness quickly became much worse and he was flown to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

Doctors don't know exactly what's wrong with him.

They told Liam's parents that he ended up getting the flu, and his immune system didn't know how to respond to it, so it started attacking his body.

But this little two year old has stayed positive throughout all of this.

Strangers and friends across the country are donating money to help Liam out.

They're wearing bracelets that say Pullin for Liam.
