WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Today in Iowa, flags are being lowered in honor of what happened 74 years ago.

Just before 8 a.m. on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, about 400 Japanese warplanes attacked Pearl Harbor.

More than 2,400 Americans were killed in the attack.

In Iowa, Governor Terry Branstad is ordering all flags lowered from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. tonight as a sign of respect.
