CLINTON (AP) -

A project to convert a former middle school in Clinton into apartments for senior citizens is getting nearly $550,000 in financial assistance.

City leaders are excited about the project, so they are offering a combination of grants and tax breaks to help.

Developer Chris Ales plans to create 50 apartments for seniors out of the former Washington Middle School he bought for $5,000.

The roughly $10 million project has been in the works since last fall, but it was delayed while Ales obtained historic tax credits from the state.
