The former head of Peru's soccer federation was arrested Saturday in connection with the U.S. investigation into alleged corruption in international soccer.

Undercover police intercepted Manuel Burga's car and took him into custody in Lima. He had been indicted on corruption charges by U.S. prosecutors in the growing FIFA bribery probe. FIFA is soccer's world governing body.

Burga said that he had "not received any kickback or bribes," and that he had left his home because he "needed to do a family errand."

Peru's national police director said Friday that his office had received an international arrest warrant for Burga. On Thursday, U.S authorities accused Burga and 15 other FIFA officials in connection with the investigation.
