UPDATE: Ohio State University says the ex-employee who killed himself inside a gallery at the campus' contemporary art museum was a security guard who resigned in 2009 to avoid being fired.
In a statement Monday the university identified him as 63-year-old Dean Sturgis. The school says he had worked as an unarmed security guard, but no other details about his employment were released.
No one else was injured in the shooting, which was reported at 11:20 a.m. Sunday at the Wexner Center for the Arts on the sprawling Columbus campus. It happened shortly after the museum was scheduled to open for the day.
Sturgis apparently vandalized artwork before he shot himself. Wexner Center officials are still assessing the damage.

Police at Ohio State say there is no ongoing threat to the university community after a man shot himself inside a campus art museum.
Acting Chief Craig Stone says campus police received a report at 11:20 a.m. Sunday of self-inflicted gunfire at the Wexner Center for the Arts. The call came shortly after the center had been scheduled to open to the public for the day.
Stone says police responded immediately and the man was not considered a threat. No one else was injured.
Police say the museum specializing in contemporary art is closed and the investigation is ongoing.
No additional details were immediately released.
