New exploration suggests King Tut's tomb has hidden chambers

LUXOR, Egypt (NBC) -

Egypt says there's a 90% chance that there are hidden chambers inside King Tut's tomb. The new stance is based on the preliminary results of a new exploration of the 33-hundred-year-old mausoleum.

Egypt's antiquities minister said at a news conference today that the results will be sent to Japan for a month-long analysis before the search resumes.

British Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves theorizes that King Tut, who died at the age of 19, may have been rushed into an outer chamber of what was originally Nefertiti's tomb.

Famed for her beauty, Nefertiti was the subject of a famous 33-hundred-year-old bust.
